Promise 378 Raid controller windows 7
I have been fighting to install windows 7 onto a hard drive that is being controlled by my motherboards promise 378 raid controller. After hours of no success I finally gave up and installed it on an IDE drive on another controller..There is a good news story here though. While it was installing onto the other drive, I did some reading. After much persistence I determined that I didn't understand the problem with the controller and drivers. Thanks to this blog link I finally understood the problem. I was installing the "raid" drivers, when I only had one disk on the controller. I needed it to be in sata controller mode with the sata controller drivers. I didn't understand that there were TWO drivers. One for the raid OR one for the sata controller (depending upon how you set up your bios selections). After this revelation, I went on the web to find the sata only drivers with no luck..I was finally able to dig out my old floppy with both types of drivers on it..the sata driver files are named ULSATA.CAT, ULSATA.INF, ULSATA.SYS.... these are the files that windows 7 needs to use the promise 378 as a sata controller! Go to www.driverguide.com and download my file promise_378drivers.zip
